Abstract
With today's highly competitive market places, both foreign and domestic, it has become exceedingly important for manufacturers to adapt current technologies and techniques for producing parts and products in the most economical manner. One such relatively new technique, in this country, is the concept of Group Technology (GT). Group Technology is based on the grouping of parts into families according to certain part attributes and then planning the manufacturing process for each group. An extension to the concept, which this research addresses, is to use the GT approach to specify the optimal manufacturing system.
