Abstract

Great concern is shown by many educators and sociologists because so many American youths do not complete their twelve years of formal education. These educators and sociologists feel they are justified in believing that the youths who drop out would be better adjusted and more fully able to take their places in society as useful, happy adults if they did graduate from high school.
