Abstract

During the Academic Year 1951-1952, about 30,000 foreign students came to the United States for training of one sort or another. Both Government and private foundations have expressed enthusiasm and contributed substantial sums of money to carry on exchange programs and similar enterprises. The presence in the country of impressionable young people from abroad is generally accorded approval as one way of furthering international amity by mutual knowledge and respect. It is not to be assumed, however, that the process will inevitably be successful, and careful planning and guidance is necessary if this potentially valuable phenomenon is to bear maximum fruit.
