Abstract
Educators are being faced constantly with demands to educate children to be world citizens, to prepare them for a life in an age where no place is more than one day away. It is a great task to present the world, with its diverse languages and cultures, to a child, in hopes that he will be able to sort out the good and the bad and acquire a thorough knowledge of both. One small step in this direction has been taken through the teaching of modern foreign languages in the high school. But this has not been adequate and there is an ever-growing desire to introduce the child to a second language while the speech organs are flexible enough to trill r's or voice a nasal sound. Early education in the United States included such training but war, depression and war again, has changed man's thinking. Many sections of the country are again presenting languages with varying methods and varying degrees of success.
