Abstract
Within the past decade, increased emphasis has been placed on the concept of alcoholism as a disease process. Gradually, the alcoholic is being seen as a sick man rather than a criminal or morally weak person. The problem suggested is not one of semantics. Implications of the acceptance of alcoholism as a disease extend to the areas of methods of rehabilitation, treatment and prevention.
