Abstract

Each person is an individual, and if treated as such his educational development will necessitate individual attention and treatment. The practice of universal promotion is followed more and more; this leads to greater heterogeneity of ability hence more need for considering adaptations for individual differences. mat can one teacher in a crowded classroom do to satisfy the needs of the individual? One partial solution is to group the children in a classroom according to their ability. This practice has been followed throughout most of the teaching experiences of this investigator. This study shall attempt to determine if ability grouping within the classroom has any effect on achievement in arithmetic.
